Full Fathom Five Digital is always on the lookout for great content that has an established fanbase, namely online fanfiction and original fiction published in community forums like fanfiction.net and Wattpad.
Coming this October is the launch of one such book series: Catrina Burgess’s thrilling paranormal-YA series, The Dark Rituals. The first book, Awakening, won “Best Suspense Story of 2014” on Wattpad, where the entire series has over three million reads.
When we first reviewed Awakening and followed the main character, Colina, on her journey, we were captivated…and totally understood its success. The evil Colina overcomes time and time again through the entirety of the series, though paranormal, is relatable to everyone—particularly teens facing the emotional upheaval of adolescence.
Here’s a taste:
Seventeen-year-old Colina Campbell was born a healer. But after a horrific event forces her to leave her clan, she becomes desperate to learn the dark magic of the death dealers, mages who control the spirits of the dead. After enlisting the help of a young death dealer named Luke, Colina finds she must undergo three dark rituals in order to gain the power she seeks.
It isn’t long before Colina discovers an untapped darkness living within her soul. Can she defeat her demons and survive the horrors to come?
We knew we had to publish Awakening and the three books that follow it: Possession, Revenant, and Legion. Each one is a captivating thriller that follows Colina as she faces the consequences of the dark choices she made in book #1. The covers needed to be eerie and dramatic to match the stories, and we think our designer, Fiona Jayde, knocked it out of the park:
